Before you go

Bring a cooler

Most Maine breweries sell cans and bottles to go — Cushnoc, Maine Beer Company, and Bissell Brothers all have excellent retail selections. A cooler in the car means you come home from a Portland or Freeport day trip with a great stash for the rest of the week. The lodge fridge has room.

Start local, go big

Cushnoc in Augusta and The Liberal Cup in Hallowell are the obvious first stops — close enough for a casual weeknight out. Save Portland and Freeport for a full day trip: combine Bissell Brothers, Allagash, and Maine Beer Company with a walk through the Old Port and dinner on the water.

Designate a driver

Maine's back roads are beautiful and rural — and that means no rideshares outside of Augusta and Portland. If you're planning a proper brewery day, designate a driver or keep your visit close to town. The drive home along the lake at dusk is worth doing clear-headed anyway.

Your home base

Stay at Echo Escape

The fridge is big, the porch is perfect for a cold can at sunset, and Cushnoc is twenty minutes down the road. Book your stay and drink well all week.
